5 Reasons why you should do an internship abroad

For some it is a dream, for some it is a fear and for some it is an unsolved mystery, going abroad for work or an internship. Nowadays it is more and more common for universities and companies to send and receive interns from all over the world, abroad to gain experience in an international work field.  In this blog post I will give you five reasons on why you should take the step and go abroad!

1. Experience

It may sound scary at first, going to a strange country all by your self to work at a company which is most likely your first real big working experience but it is a great opportunity. First of all you will gain a lot of experience, professional wise and personal wise. The company understands that you don't have a lot of experience and will guide you with everything that you need know. All the things that you learn at your internship company are great assets that you can use in your future.

2. Personal Growth

An internship abroad can be for various periods of time like one month, three months, six months or even a year. It does not really matter how long you are going because anyways you will experience a big personal growth. Maybe it is the first time you are living on your own, or the first time you have to cook for yourself and really take care of yourself. Furthermore you will meet a lot of people from different cultures which will maybe change your view on life and the world. I speak from experience and I can say that being abroad for some time on your own makes you a new person.

3. Meeting new people

One thing that may sound like a negative aspect about going abroad is that you are leaving your family and friends behind, but you don't have to worry about this. I can assure you that you will meet a lot of great new people which some of them, may be friends for life. Some places where you might meet new people are in your new apartment, at your workplace and at bars and clubs. As a tip I would like to say that you should check out Facebook because there are numerous groups available for Erasmus students in which they post parties and events that are often free for students. These events are great opportunities to meet new people as well.

4. Resume 

An internship abroad looks very good on your resume which is a big plus for your future. It will show companies that you are willing to travel and that you are flexible. Furthermore it also show that you have some more experience up your sleeves. It will also set you apart from other applicants which is always a good sign.

5. Travelling

Living abroad is a great opportunity for exploring and traveling. Nowadays you can travel quit cheap with flight from for example Ryanair and bus trips with Flixbus. Travelling is a big recommendation that I can give. These memories are something that you will never forget and will make your time abroad a lot more fun.

Going abroad is not something that you decide overnight and needs some great thinking and planning. I hope these five reasons make your decision a little bit easier. I can assure you that you won't regret it and it will be the time of your life.
